This was a good article. I'm glad it mentions the fact that you still have to have clinical experience. It doesn't matter how good of a program (online or college), a real working experience is where you will learn the most. Placing IV catheters, drawing blood, laboratory work, reading x-rays and ultrasound is definitely hands-on learning
Hi, That was an excellent link and I'm so glad that I found your blog! It's incredibly helpful and it's a great idea to post your experiences. I'm considering an online vet tech school myself. According to the Penn Foster website, you have to do a practicum in semesters 2 and 4. How do you plan to do this? My main fear is not being able to find a mentor/clinical practice site. No one is hiring around where I am. And you mentioned in another post that no help is really available if you have a question about the school work. Are there teachers to the individual classes? Are there class discussion forums? Sorry for all the questions, hope you can help. Good luck with everything!!
I started the Veterinary Technician Program at Penn Foster College in November 2009.
I created this site to document my journey towards getting a degree in Veterinary Technology and I am hoping it will have helpful information for other perspective students who are thinking about pursuing a career in Veterinary Technology.
